Making Some Noise in Photoshop

Making Some Noise in Photoshop

Following along in the Photoshop Wow! Book, the next tutorial deals with noise. In the exercise, I used Photoshop’s Noise filter and experimented with the different settings, such as uniform and gaussian, using the Monochromatic option, and some after-noise processing with the Despeckle filter and with the Fade command.

This image is the result of adding Noise at 20 percent with the Uniform setting and with theĀ  Monochromatic option checked. Then, I used the Despeckle filter to blur the noise just a bit. Finally, I used Fade (Edit > Fade) to fade the Despeckle effect. I settled on an opacity of 50.

The final result:

  1. Hey, I’m working out of Illustrator WOW! book myself. Maybe I’ll get the Photoshop WOW! book out and try some of these things.

  2. This reminds me of high speed film pushed to its max. The “noise” is just like film grain. Nice effect for these flowers

  3. Thanks! Photography is something else that fascinates me. If I had the money, I’d be taking classes in art museums and studios all the time.
