Whimsical Nature Logo
Found a tutorial on creating a nature/green logo in Illustrator at Smashing Magazine. It was fairly involved and I didn’t add all the elements like the dirt. I much rather spend my day Illustrating! Had fun with it.

read moreEarlier this year, I came across this tutorial for creating buttons in Photoshop, and bookmarked it for future reference. I also found a tutorial for creating buttons in Illustrator, but thought I’d give it a try in Photoshop first (since I’m a lot more comfortable with PS). It took me a little while to get the original button template to look how I wanted (about 30 minutes), but after the template’s created, it’s easy to duplicate the button template & clip different pictures into it.

This project took a little bit longer than some of the other challenges, I spent about 45 minutes on the disco ball. I also ran into some difficulties with the tutorial, which may be due to the tutorial author using a different version of Adobe Illustrator than I was using (I have Adobe Illustrator CS4). If you’re interested in creating your own disco ball, read on for some of the discrepencies I found…

This took me about 15 minutes to create & I used three different fonts. I used the font LondonTwo for “making” & “font”, the “a” is Courier New and “sketchy” is the Vintage font.

The most time consuming part was picking out the colors to use in my spectrums. It only took 15 minutes to complete all three of these spectrums!

The first is a grungy calendar – I’m experimenting with texture and wallpapers – trying to learn how much is too much, and what is enough…not quite sure I’ve achieved the right mix here, but it took about 25 minutes and that’s all I the time I had for it. I’ve looked for the original source on the wallpaper (I downloaded it from deviantart), but can’t find it, much to my chagrin.
read moreI know I’m far from unique in loving the look of grunge text and images but had not had the opportunity to play with creating the grunge look from scratch. I jumped right on it when I saw the title of this tutorial: Quickly add Grunge to Text in Illustrator. The “many” thanks came about from attempting to findĀ just the right bold fontĀ to make the most impact using this technique, which turned out to be … you guessed it … Rockwell Extra Bold!
