So I’ve been playing with this for quite some time. I’ve been trying to “go mouseless” because I know it’s a lot more efficient than the “hunt and peck” habit I have for myself. (I hunt and peck everything. I can’t even type without looking at the keyboard – even though I know where all the keys are without looking. I just have to look for some reason! I think it goes back to high school – I hated my typing teacher, and she hated me. I used to do it because it made her mad LOL Joke’s on me, I guess!)

No, not a stray. The kitty was supposed to be a part of the logo, but the recession ate the business when we were still at the initial sketches. That was going to be a fun project for a very nice client. Anyway, the kitty now officially has no place to go, so I thought I would digitize the best sketch and put it here. The image is based on the photos of the client’s kitty who “worked” full time at her boutique. It’s almost a “could you put my pet on the web site” case.

This is sort of hand drawn, although Harmony adds its own thoughts to every stroke. Like with drawing in ink, the beauty of it is in that you can’t correct anything. There is no eraser in this tool, nor can you realiably cover mistakes using a background color

Created this piece in Photoshop for a music project my son is working on. He writes lyrics and songs and wanted me to make him art that would represent the mood of the music. Used some brushes, imagery and type.

A few weeks ago, I posted an initial character sketch, and said I would follow up with the digital version later. This started as a custom illustration for a client, but as I got further into this project, the illustration started to look younger than what was needed for the client. Although I ended up going in a different direction for the final graphic, this digital illustration was still a step in the process.

This tutorial show how to turn a photograph into a digital painting. I didn’t like the final result using the filter settings in the tutorial, so I started over and changed some of them as I went along. The length of time is very dependent on how careful you are with the final step of painting with the smudge tool. I learned a helpful tip in using layers too. When copying and pasting part of a layer and you need to make sure they are aligned, change the blend mode to difference, and all will be black when they are aligned.

So I took my apple from last week, and made it sing!
The idea is from this tutorial, but I did some of the mouth stuff differently, and also had to add some headphones cut out of another image.

I wanted to follow this Photoshop tutorial, but I can’t get the hand of the Photoshop pen tool, so I used the pen tool in Illustrator for the shapes, then brought it into Photoshop. I added a couple of filters to the end result.
