Business card design and duotones

Business card design and duotones

Posting three days worth of work at once, since I did all three exercises with the same image.

In preparation for the next tutorial in my Photoshop WOW! book, I created this business card for a fictitious client.

The next day (yesterday), I converted the card to a duotone so that my fictitious client could realize some savings in printing by using only one color in addition to black.

I also came up with a second option, using brown.

Interesting effects, but I thought I’d like to try something else that would better preserve the light areas on the horn. So instead of a duotone, I tried desaturating the color instead, resulting in:

This doesn’t have the same cost-saving benefit if you’re trying to print an image in only two colors, but as a learning exercise, it was interesting to see the similarities and differences.

  1. Ooh, I really like the duotone card — nice job. I love the options you have in Photoshop.

  2. I like the first two most. The sepia colored duotone is especially classy.
