I have a personal project in the works that I haven’t had a chance to get around to. Recent events caused a fire to be lit under my butt, and I was hit with inspiration. For the last two days, I’ve been sketching up a “character” for this project. I won’t tell you what the project is, but I can tell you that the character is based on the phrase “Pearls before Swine” – so of course I was thinking of a pig.

So I’ve been playing with this for quite some time. I’ve been trying to “go mouseless” because I know it’s a lot more efficient than the “hunt and peck” habit I have for myself. (I hunt and peck everything. I can’t even type without looking at the keyboard – even though I know where all the keys are without looking. I just have to look for some reason! I think it goes back to high school – I hated my typing teacher, and she hated me. I used to do it because it made her mad LOL Joke’s on me, I guess!)

Okay, I’ve been kinda quiet for the past few weeks – I do have a reason. The fam’ has been sick with some nasty stuff, and I just have either been nursing someone back to health, or getting nursed myself.
That excuse given, I wasn’t completely useless while I was sick. (Mostly, but not completely!) While I was laying in bed, moaning in misery, I was working on some things that have nothing to do with web design or needed a computer (save to obtain a pattern or two), but I still needed to unleash my creativity.

So, my daughter loves the “Twilight” series. I’ll admit that I flew through the books – reading 1 per day. They were terribly easy reads, not horrible stories (although there were a few parts where I rolled my eyes more than once), and the writing style wasn’t unpalatable. They were fun, really. I wouldn’t call them great literature or fawn all over being “Team Edward” or “Team Jacob” – but I will admit they were fun.
I also wanted to see if I could actually create digital art from scratch, and while trying to think of something simple I could attempt, I remembered the cover of the book “New Moon” always struck me as very pretty. I don’t know what kind of flower that is, but I’ve always liked the photo.

I’ve been away for the holiday vacation, and just got back to see I was made a part of this. I’m so excited!
One thing I’ve been wanting to develop are my photoshop skills. I’m pretty good at code, and I’ve gotten compliments in my designs, but I don’t often have the opportunity to manipulate and “play” with artwork ala Photoshop. I’ve always wanted to improve my skills on this end. I’m okay with “fixing” things, but I see stuff at PSDTuts and Abduzeedo and I drool. If only I were that good!
Anyway, here is an attempt at messing with Photoshop. Peles Castle (in Transylvania) is one of the prettiest castles I’ve ever seen. I’ve always wanted to do something with it. So I found a nice photo and decided to challenge myself: it was a summertime photo, but I wanted a wintertime feel.
